My Three Most Approachable Health Tips
One weekend, many years ago, I got to spend a few days with the creative geniuses behind Brandwell, a fun and innovative marketing and branding workshop hosted by the brains behind Purveyor House.
I met some of the coolest women in Bakersfield.
Amanda and her mom run House of Flowers, my go-to flower shop for personalized and funky bouquets and deliveries.
Hannah ran an interior design agency that she ended up selling for a tidy profit.
And Anna and her husband run Sage Equities and put a incredible amount of passion and energy into the restoration and advancement of the downtown Bakersfield area.
(A moment of silence for my favorite restaurant ever, Dot x Ott. I miss you every day.)
I love my town. People outside of Btown don’t understand why we live here. They don’t get that underneath the smog and heat and homeless problem and isolation, there’s a passionate and vibrant collective of people who fiercely love family and community. I’ve been here since I was in 5th grade, transitioning out for a short period of time to attend university and then coming back to raise my family here.
I love getting to pour into my community and feel like that is always reciprocated. I love our local businesses that are such an integral part of my own-
and many more.
So it was a fun honor to get to be interviewed by Anna Smith when I was trying to get my business off the ground. Formerly Reformed Metabolics as I was scared of putting my name and face out into the world, my little Jennifer Woodward Nutrition is a cherished and grateful project of mine that feels like such a blessing to be part of.
On re-reading my interview, nothing has changed. That feels nice.
I wanted to share my top three most approachable tips for upping your health game. If you can just start with these things, you’ll make meaningful progress in your hormone journey.
Here you go!
My Three Most Approachable Health Tips
Protein: You probably don’t eat enough protein. Get a palm-sized portion of clean animal products with each meal. Every body is different, but there are no traditional cultures that practice plant-based diets. Please, do eat plants liberally! But for your hormones, your brain, your libido, your weight, your blood sugar and your skin, incorporate animal products daily. We have Red House Beef and Covenant Pastures here in town, so you know you are getting the best animal products available.
Water: Add berries, mint, basil, cherries, or watermelon to your water to make getting your water in a little easier. Your body is 70% water and most of us are chronically dehydrated. Keeping hydrated reduces fatigue, irritability and cravings.
Minerals: Take an epsom-salt bath every day. Your body loses magnesium during times of stress. For most of us, that is sunup to sundown. Restoring magnesium levels to the body via epsom salts provides a deep relaxation to your muscles and nerves. Most of us are not absorbing vitamins because our stomach acid levels are so low. Getting minerals through the skin is efficacious and pleasurable! Add two cups epsom salts, two cups baking soda to reduce acid in the body, and your favorite essential oils. Soak for 30 minutes and finish with a cold rinse. You will sleep like a baby.
There you are! Do you have any tips to add? Any local businesses that support you in your health journey? Let me know!
